One of the most common problems the home inspectors at Pacific Coast Inspections, Inc. see within the firebox (fireplace) are cracked and deteriorated brick and/or mortar typically in the back firebox wall. firebox sacramento home inspection

Why would these observations be a concern?

Cracks, gaps and damaged brick in the walls of a firebox or interior chimney lining are considered a fire hazard by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). Smoke carries waste particles from a fire and eventually causes deposits to form on the walls, and inside and behind any cracks.

This oily substance, called creosote, can re-ignite from sparks rising in the chimney and possibly lead to a chimney fire… Now, that’s scary. It’s extremely important to keep these walls free of creosote build-up and to promptly repair any cracks, gaps, voids, and/or damaged bricks.

You can count on the certified and trained inspectors at Pacific Coast Inspections, Inc. to identify and report on any readily accessible chimney and fireplace conditions.
